Advice & tips : Return to sport

It can be difficult for a person to know when they are ready to return to sport after an injury.

Your physiotherapist will be able to help you making a realistic decision based on their objective evaluation.

There are a few things to keep in mind:
-You must have good strength in the injured area and full flexibility and range of motion.
-Activities of daily living should produce little or no signs and symptoms
-You should have good proprioception (balance) and able to incorporate different speeds and change of direction into your exercises.
-Functional exercises should be able to be performed without any problems
-You should have the endurance to complete a normal training session and be able to tolerate the sport specific demands that are placed on you.
-Make sure you are psychologically ready for the return and that there won’t be too many demands and unrealistic expectations from other people.

It is important to still continue with the exercise program provided by your physiotherapist  for at least the first couple of weeks  after your return to sport.
